Tordel

Tordel is a rare starmetal—deposits fall from the sky as part of meteorites. “Tordel” is a dwarven word which translates literally as “soul steel”. The elves call the metal “azangthal” which translates as “glimmering soul metal”.

Tordel is as rare and expensive as adamantine, and only skilled crafters can work the metal. It is much sought after—normally by weaponsmiths. When used in the crafting of a weapon, it is said to be able to trap the soul of those slain by the weapon; thus—slowly—the weapon gains power. These new powers often assume characteristics of the creatures slain by the weapon. For example, a weapon used to slay many undead could develop strength-draining abilities or confer some level of resistance to various effects to which undead are immune.

Unsurprisingly, dwarves are the race generally assumed to have most experience with tordel. Much of this knowledge—and several tordel weapons—were lost in Vongyth’s fall. Some information regarding tordel may survive in the Dreaming Spire’s “Special Collection”.

The dwarf ranger, Johann Firehammer, is known to wield his family’s ancestral tordel thunderaxe.
